Hun Sen. Congratulates New Thai Prime Minister

Prime Minister Hun Sen. Yesterday wrote to new Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, congratulating her and saying he looked forward to restoring friendship between the neighboring countries. Ms Yingluck, who was officially sworn in on Monday, is the youngest sister of ex-Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was briefly appointed as an economic adviser to Mr Hun Sen. in 2009. “I am very optimistic that …Your Excellency and I will be able restore the bonds of traditional and fraternal friendship, good neighborliness, and productive cooperation between our two people,” read the premier’s letter, which was signed on Friday and delivered directly to Ms Yingluck yesterday by Cambodian Ambassador You Ay.
Relations frayed between the two countries following repeated fighting over the disputed border near Preah Vihear temple, which was listed as a World Heritage site in 2008. “I look forward to working very closely with Your Excellency to serve the interest of our two nations and people and to resolve all problems peacefully,” the premier added.
