WET RICE CULTIVATION

Wet rice cultivation is practiced in many parts of the world. These places generally have high temperature, heavy rainfall, law lying land and clayey soil or fertile soil that encourages wet cultivation. High temperature is required to enable the rice seeds to crow and to germinate. Heavy rainfall is necessary because wet rice needs a lot of water for nice growing. Where rainfall is low, farmers respond by building ponds and wells to irrigate their fields.
Wet rice grows well on flat land that allows for flooding in the growing season, Thus, most of the rice growing areas are found on channel and land, However, wet rice cultivation can be practiced on slopes by cutting steps on them to create flat strips of land called low land area and terraced shifting cultivation. Wet rice grows best areas fields. The soil should also be fertile. In places where the soil is poor, the farmers respond by adding fertile.
Rice is usually planned in the rainy season but it can also be grown in the dry season if there's a sufficient supply of water, or the output will not be good at harvest time. The first stage in the process of rice growing is to prepare land for a seed.
After a few days of rain, the ground is soft enough to e soil. So the framers driver their oxen to the fields and begin sloughing and harrowing. Them they take the rice seeds from the sack which have been soaked and germinated a few days before land preparation to sow in the soft, wet soil. The rain and the warm sunshine make plants grow quickly. Before long they are big enough to be planted in the field. The formers pull the young rice or seedling from the soil and tie them in bundles. This is slow careful work. After that the bundles are carried to the ploughed fie and dropped along the row where they are Trans planted later then they start Trans planting when the seedlings grow a bit taller, the farmers start spraying the crop with insecticide or no need, during this growing period. Rice demands intensive care and full protection such as weeding adding animate manure, and irrigating.
After several months, the rain ends and the rice is ready for growing The yellow rice stalks are cut, tied in bundles and put in the sun to dry, Later they are spread into the pile on the threshing floor farmers drive the oxen back and forth over the stalks to loosen the grain from them. Then they toss the stalks, and the grains of rice fall into the threshing floor. Finally the grains of rice are gathered and carried in ox-carts to the barn to be stored.

Pchum Ben is the most important religious festival in the Khmer religious calendar, which is celebrate from after the full moon in the tenth month of Phatraboth. Traditionally, It lasts for 15 days, but in the final day is the most important that is the actual day of Pchum Ben. Cambodians have faithfully observed the festival every year.

Regardless how busy they may be during the 15 days of Pchum Ben, Cambodian people try not to miss a visit to the pagoda every year to honor this tradition to show respect, dedicate food for their ancestors and nobody complains.
According to Buddhist belief people feel sorry for and remember their relatives who have passed away those are may be their parents, grandparents, a sister, a brother, daughter or son. Each household prepared many kinds of food, when the food has been prepared many kinds of food, when the food has been prepared they make it to the pagoda together with incense, candles and flowers give to the monks. They consecrate and dedicate food with other offerings to the dead, the monks offer prayer and dedicate to all those who have died.

During Pchum Ben are the periods when those souls and spirits are let out from the hell they coming to receive offering from their living relative perhaps gain some relief. It's believed that after we have died our spirits or minds will be born again, if those people have committed good deed when they were  living they will be born into the heaven, but if they committed harmful sins they will be born into the hell and are tortured there. Everyone goes to pagoda at least 7 different pagodas, because they don't want the spirits of dead members of their family to be difficult to seek offering at some pagodas.

It's believed that those spirits will go to look in seven different pagodas, if they can't find their living relatives offerings in any of those, they will curse them because they can't eat food offered by other people when living relatives offer the food to the spirits, the spirits will bless them with happiness and prosperity.

The Royal Birthday of the King

The Royal Birthday of the king is usually called the Festival of Tang Tok. This Festival, which is one of the ceremonies of the twelve, month, is celebrated in order to give wishes to the King. The ceremony is performed inside the wall of the Royal Palace. Along the front wall of the Palace there are Tang Tok exhibits of all kinds. Each section is decorated with carious displays. Such as instruments of war, telecommunication of materials and old objects of art, which are arranged by different ministries?

Trough the South entrance many people-including-bachelors and maidens-wearing their best clothes. Enter to see the Tang Tok festival. They walk about in group over the yard in front of the Throne Room waiting to watch the firework which wills soon explode in the air like shower of falling stars. On this occasion, the royal orchestra and the royal dancers perform in the dance pavilion to entertain the people. Outside the walls of the Palace, vendors sell various snacks, and there are games such as Kon and Ayay which are played continuously until the festival is over. Necks to see well Sorae people sat eating snacks such as fried short noodles and pregnant eggs at the eateries whereas the other stand listening to the music played by the bands advertising beers or cigarettes. Omnipresent vendors walked through the crowd, shouting about the things them bad to sell-fresh fruits and brined fruits such as grape fruits, ranges, guavas, jujubes, chunks of sugar cane and unimaginable variety of fruits. We walked further toward the open field in front of the Royal Palace where. I come across a large mass of people. Most of them were squatting and sitting with crossed legs on the mats or on the grass, chatting happily. In the next open field there was a large stage on stilts decorated with colored curtains, on which the Ayai and long-handled guitar song competition was held.

The embankment of Mekong River on that day was probably the most beautiful past of Phnom Penh. It came alive towards the evening when the sun's beat abates. Street photographers took pictures of all who wishes to be photographed against the background of the Royal Palace at 6:30 P.M when the night fell, the darkness descends. Street lamps and the full moon lighted the whole area. Hundreds of light bulbs placed along the brick walls and on the roof of the temples of the Royal Palace sent out their bright light which made the Palace look like paradise.
At about seven o’clock the river was lit by lazy illuminated boats. Which float slowly and smoothly on the water‘s surface. Each of them was equipped with thousands of flashy noon lights arranged in different colorful fancy patterns representing state institution ministries and services. Silver ripple lip against the side of the boats. The moon was sailing the sky. The cool wind was so refreshing. This delighted nigh made me feel nostalgic for the past. After a little time fireworks where lit to entertain people. Some of them made loud noises. The burst into various shape and color in the sky. I stood there and watching people for a while and then came back to the place where I leave my motorbike. I go on my motorbike and rode to Independent monument whose beautiful public parks and fountains shape of small restaurant to have some light refreshment. And at 10 0’clock we return home at in a pleasant mood with high expectation of the next day’s sightseeing.

Going for walks during the water Festival Days really refreshed my mood. The livery festive atmosphere helped relieve my tension and trouble.
